When observing all the states in the entire South Caucasus one can confidently say that no country has experienced such development in democracy as has the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), said Constitution Court member, Supreme Council (in the 90s) Committee on Legal Affairs Chair Kim Balayan.
“You might know that in Nagorno-Karabakh [during elections], perhaps not even a single false ballot is cast. There’s no such thing,” assured Balayan. In her words, under no condition “can a democratic country be part of a non-democratic country.”
Another participant at the press conference, head of the Political Studies Department at the Caucasus Institute, political analyst Sergey Minasyan said that for the NKR, its 19 years of existence is the most important political factor, which speaks in favor of the Armenian side.
In his words, 19 years isn’t such a big number in a historical sense, but in a political sense, considering the region’s geopolitical situation, this timeline is quite a serious argument for saying that the Armenian people, in some way or another, have already reached the goal they had in mind at the end of the 80s.
