The treaty extending the term of Russia’s military base in Gyumri is directed toward establishing peace and stability in the Caucasus region, said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in a joint press conference with his Azerbaijani colleague.
“We are interested in there being peace and order here. It is from this perspective that the military base extension must be viewed,” he said.
The Russian leader also emphasized that extending the agreement with Armenia doesn’t change the main points of that agreement.
“This only means one thing: the military base’s term has been extended by a few years,” he said simply.
