“It’s odd that a state whose people has seen Golodomor [also Holodomor, a famine in the Ukraine SSR], until today hasn’t recognized the genocide of the Armenians. The biggest evil is when you know the truth, but you don’t want to accept it; this speaks to the state’s weakness. This is an issue of morality,” said Ukrainian writer, National Writers’ Union of Ukraine Vice Chair Vasily Shklyar.
According to Shklyar, as a representative of Ukrainian intellectuals, he is personally ashamed of this fact.
“It’s possible that we spoke less than we could’ve about the Armenian Genocide with Ukrainians. I believe, it’s necessary to appeal to the state’s high-level bodies with the demand of recognizing the Armenian Genocide, which will be a certain kind of cleansing for us,” said Shklyar, according to Analitika.at.ua.
