Opposition Prepared to ‘Re-Conquer’ Yerevan’s Freedom Square

While meeting with journalists today, Armenian National Congress (HAK) coordinator Levon Zurabyan presented, in his words, the plan to re-conquer Freedom (or Liberty) Square. There are three main points in the HAK program:

1. The September 17 rally will take place in the area near the Matenadaran (The Museum of Ancient Manuscripts).

2. Every day, an appeal will be made to Yerevan City Hall to hold the rally in Freedom Square (which they were denied)

3. All the unlawful decisions to prohibit the rally will be disputed in all local and international courts, as well as all international bodies that protect human rights

Zurabyan noted that if the authorities don’t accept any of their appeals in a reasonable period of time, then the opposition group will reserve its right to hold a rally regardless of the City Hall decision.
