Canada’s Support in UN Tangible: Hovik Abrahamyan

On September 7, RA National Assembly Chair Hovik Abrahamyan welcomed a Canadian parliamentary delegation comprised of Chair of the Canada-Armenia Friendship Group Harold Albrecht, and MPs Rob Oliphant and Tony Martin. Also present during the meeting were National Assembly Director of Staff Gegham Gharibjanyan and the RA National Assembly Chair of the Canada-Armenia Friendship Group, Hovhannes Sahakyan. 

Abrahamyan highly praised Armenia-Canada relations, adding that this visit will strengthen inter-parliamentary ties.

Abrahamyan considered stimulating economic relations between the two countries to be necessary, adding that Canada is represented in Armenia through different organizations and displays noticeable assistance and support. He considered Canada’s support in the UN to be tangible. The parliamentary speaker expressed readiness to promote bilateral relations and parliamentary ties and considered it important that Canada have an embassy in Armenia. 

Abrahamyan thanked the Canadian parliamentary delegation for Canada’s parliament having recognized the Armenian Genocide.

During the meeting, attention was also paid to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Armenia-Turkey relations.
