Georgia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Grigol Vashadze has denied rumours about the creation of a possible Georgia-Azerbaijan confederation.
According to Vashadze, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili’s statement to establish such a confederation must be placed into context: that statement was made to stress the current friendly ties between Georgia and Azerbaijan.
“We must listen carefully to the president. He has repeatedly said that relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan are more than just strategic, and that those relations actually assume the characteristic of relations between countries in a confederation. That doesn’t mean that we are going to create a unified legal basis, combining our legislative body and Constitution. We are saying that Georgia and Azerbaijan have close and coordinated relations,” explained Vashadze, reports Georgia Online.
