One of the park’s in Istanbul’s Kınalı District will be named after slain journalist and former editor of bilingual weekly Agos Hrant Dink.
According to our Istanbul correspondent, the opening ceremony will take place tomorrow.
Istanbul authorities had intended to use the expression “martyred journalist Hrant Dink” in the park’s name; however, Dink’s family wrote a letter to the municipality asking not to use the term “martyr” which in Turkish (sehit) has a double meaning, often used ironically.
The municipality acknowledge the request from Dink’s family and decided to call the park “Hrant Dink Children’s Park.”
