New Veterinary Lab Opens in Yerevan

A new central veterinary lab opened today in Yerevan’ Kentron (Center) district. Present at the opening ceremony were RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and Vice-President for Europe and Central Asia Region of the World Bank Philippe Le Houérou.

The Republican Veterinary Anti-Epidemic Diagnostic Center was rebuilt within the frames of the the “Fight Against Bird Flu” project, implemented with funding from the World Bank’s Japan Policy and Human Resources Development (PHRD) technical assistance grants program and a various donors fund from an organization specializing in avian influenza and the human flu ($1.5 million USD).

The renovated and modern center, instead of the former 700 square meters, currently occupies about 3,200 square meters of space, and each department has its own separate laboratory. The center fully complies with the second class of biological safety labs and certified international standards.
