Officers Guilty of Army Deaths Should be Publicly Judged: Arzumanyan

Armenia’s former minister of foreign affairs, Armenian National Congress (HAK) representative Alexander Arzumanyan today spoke about the recent incidents of the deaths of young men serving in Armenia’s armed forces.

He said that these cases are nothing new, it’s simply that, thanks to journalists, the incidents are publicized and revealed, for which Arzumanyan gave thanks.

“This is Soviet heritage, you know, that the Armenian army is anchored to the Soviet Union army, that’s no secret, it’s something particular to all of the Soviet states. It’s a weakness for all of us, that during the last 20 years, we haven’t been able to turn the army into a more professional body, so it undergoes more public scrutiny, so that such things don’t happen,” he said.

In his words, those officers, because of whom such cases happen, must be publicly judged, so that people may know what is taking place.

“We’re talking about our children, whose lives are in danger because of some… lieutenant, general or, I don’t know, president, that’s what’s painful. It’s our issue, it’s a part of our house, that each of us relates to and we must fight against that,” said Armenia’s former foreign minister.
