Updated: Azerbaijan has Now Received That Which it was Demanding: Arzumanyan

The resolution put forth by Azerbaijan is hanging over Armenia like a “Sword of Damocles,” said former RA minister of foreign affairs Alexander Arzumanyan, while speaking to journalists today, explaining that Azerbaijan hasn’t removed “The situation in the territories occupied by Armenia” resolution from the UN agenda, it’s simply moved it to the 65th Session of the UN General Assembly, which is going to begin on the second Tuesday of this September and will continue till the same day next year.

Arzumanyan said that the issue will continue to remain on the agenda during that time. Furthermore, as a reason for such a move from Azerbaijan, Arzumanyan noted, in his words, “an important element.”

“During the Co-Chairs’ visit, it was stated that the Co-Chairs have appealed both to the UN and to the OSCE leadership that a fact-finding mission take place in the region and the seven subject areas at the end of September or early October. That which Azerbaijan was demanding, it was at this point received, and at this time, it doesn’t consider it advisable to put this issue up for a vote,” said Arzumanyan.

In order to fight against this, in the former FM’s opinion, Armenia must actively work 365 days a year, put forth proposals against and present different resolutions.

“This was a display of passivity. There’s also the second political element, when Azerbaijan’s delegation in the UN in early 2008 was actively pushing forth this resolution, falsified elections were being carried out in Armenia, the foreign ministry’s only function… during those days was to ensure PR for the unlawful ruling authorities and that’s why they ignored it. Now, two years later, we say, how did it happen?” added Arzumanyan.
