Tree Planting Ceremony in Protest of Multi-Storey Construction in Yerevan

The local group “We are the owners of this city” have announced plans for a symbolic tree-planting ceremony to take place on Sept. 15 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.

Below is the description of the ceremony as per the group’s Facebook event page:

A multi-storey construction project is being planned in the public park situated in between Aram and Buzand streets. Inevitably, trees will be cut and the greenery of the park will be damaged. Any construction project will result in this public park losing its primary purpose.

In order to express our opposition to this construction project, a symbolic tree-planting event will take place in the park. During the event a tree will be blessed and planted in the park. The tree will be given a name which will be displayed on a plaque nearby. This ceremony will express our readiness to take care of this park. The event will be a celebration with songs by a choir and dancing. Those present will tie symbolic ribbons to the trees.

Bring along your good mood as this will be a celebration for Mother Nature and our dear Yerevan! Together let’s protect our park from total destruction and let’s stand up for the right to a healthy life, for us as well as for our children!”

The Armenian description of the event says that the organizers of the event are the residents of buildings surrounding the park, the Armenia Tree Project and the group “We are the owners of this city.”
