A ban on all Iranian imports, to include Persian rugs takes effect September 29 as part of US legislation. Persian rugs will no longer be allowed into the United States as part of a broad array of sanctions passed by the US Congress on July 1.
Head of the sector on imports and exports Herischi Abker stated that the decision was unexpected for Tehran. In his words, a large number of Persian rugs are currently held at US customs.
Carpet import companies are worried that a similar step may be taken by European countries, reports IRNA.
Recall that Ronald Reagan during his tenure as president imposed a ban on the import of carpets from Iran to the US, which was in effect for 14 years.
