Turkey’s Expectations weren’t Justified: Demoyan

Turkey, with its policy, got involved in the process of normalizing Armenia-Azerbaijan relations and settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, since it had important expectations, said Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute Director Hayk Demoyan at a press conference today, speaking on Turkey’s role in the process of settling the NKR conflict.

According to him, Turkey’s ruling authorities’ first expectation was they wanted to stop the Armenian Genocide recognition process.

“Turkey’s second important expectation was by getting involved in the process of normalizing Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, Turkey attempted to activate its country’s role in settling the NKR conflict,” said Demoyan, adding that no expectation was justified, which is why Turkey didn’t ratify the Protocols.

“It doesn’t cease to amaze me that something’s not right in Turkey, and, for me, the rating for legendary Turkish diplomacy is declining,” he said.

Speaking on the effect of Armenia-Turkey relations on Armenia, Demoyan said that as a result of developments in Armenia-Turkey relations, a serious rupture appeared in Armenia-Diaspora relations.
