Will There be an Autumn of Heated Politics? A Debate

An autumn of heated politics does not await us, said Republican Party of Armenia member Mkrtich Minasyan, at a press conference today held jointly with Union of Political Analysts President Hmayak Hovhannisyan.

“It’ll be a regular fall,” said Minasyan, adding that the opposition is given the opportunity to hold a rally, let them say what they have to say.

“There will be discussions, rallies, but today there isn’t that critical period, for there to be great masses,” said Minasyan.

He also stated that the talk of “surprises” to be expected at the rally is simply “political trick” with the expectation of gathering more people.

Hovhannisyan, however, didn’t agree with Minasyan. According to him, “there are many who are discontented and they are going to gather large masses for the upcoming rally.”

Hovhannisyan also said that if Levon Ter-Petrosyan and opposition leaders are unable to carry out their promise of extraordinary elections this fall, then it’ll be meaningless in the future, since regular elections will be held in a year and a half.
