If Armenia legally recognizes Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence, there is a danger that the process of conflict settlement will be interrupted, said politcal analyst Alexander Iskandaryan at a Sept. 25 press conference.
The analyst had recently come across in the press the idea that Armenia had the opportunity to recognize NKR’s independence after Western countries recognized Kosovo’s independence.
“Let’s think: Armenia begins to make an effort, other states begin to recognize NKR [as an independent republic], which forces Azerbaijan to choose a settlement option that’s favorable for us,” he said.
The Caucasus Institute Director noted that, for the above to happen, it’s necessary to receive recognition from the US, Russia, Turkey and other countries.
“Is it possible to do that? The answer is clear: No,” concluded Iskandaryan.
