The original purpose of the pan-national movement was to implement a change in government in Armenia. The aim of the social movement at that time wasn’t the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said Heritage Party MP Armen Martirosyan at a press conference today.
Explaining Heritage Party’s readiness to support the Armenian National Congress (HAK), Martirosyan said, it’s possible, HAK leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan hasn’t changed its position on Nagorno-Karabakh. However, since the issue has to do with a change in government, “we served that demand of the people.”
Asked whether Heritage will back Ter-Petrosyan in the upcoming elections, Martirosyan said, “I don’t think, one enters the same river twice.”
However, according to the MP, that’s his personal opinion, and the issue hasn’t been discussed by his political party. Heritage has its own presidential candidate in the likes of Raffi Hovannisian.
Speaking about supporting HAK in the parliamentary elections, the Heritage Party member expressed confidence that “taken separately, there will no longer be a problem in supporting HAK.”
According to him, the Yerevan municipal elections were a good lesson for his party. Nevertheless, he doesn’t exclude the possibility and, in fact, he would be very happy to participate in elections with a unified list together with HAK.
