From 2004–2005, Armenians made up 5% of the total number of emigrants to Russia, but that number significantly increased in 2006, said government expert Harutyun Mesrobyan at a press conference today.
“In particular, in 2005, 8,000 Armenians left for Russia; in 2006, 13,000; in 2007, 31,000; and in 2008, 36,000 citizens of Armenia,” said the expert, adding that the oligarchic system and the moral-psychological situation in Armenia supports such volumes of emigration.
Mesrobyan also said that he completely doesn’t understand what the Diaspora of Ministry is up to.
“They should’ve supported immigration; but you don’t know what they’re doing. I think that it’s time for them to go on pensions,” he added.
