Laws in Armenia Today Against Armenian Language: Yeritsyan

Laws in Armenia today work against the Armenian language, said head of the RA State Language Inspectorate Sergo Yeritsyan while speaking to journalists today.

From the beginning of the century till today, he, along with his staff, has visited and conducted inspection checks on around 105 establishments in Armenia, said the language inspector.

Many violations have been found, but Armenian legislation has “tied the Inspectorate’s hands and feet” — the company or entity that has committed the violation immediately makes reference to the dual meaning of the law and comes out clean.

It remains for Yeritsyan to only accept this set of legislative obstacles, at least temporarily.

According to him, Yeritsyan, with his organization, works in 3 directions: conducts inspection checks, makes clarifications regarding language for those who need it and, most importantly, develops legislative amendments. If the National Assembly ratifies the reform bill developed by the State Language Inspectorate, then language issues would be resolved more easily in Armenia, he said.
