Belarus Ambassador Ties Armenian Genocide with Azerbaijan?

The subject of the Armenian Genocide carried out by the Ottoman Empire is quite extensive and today it is in the entire world’s attention, said Belarus Ambassador to Armenia Stepan Sukhorenko, meeting with journalists today.

According to the him, the matter is still under investigation.

“We cannot unequivocally support either the Armenian or the Azerbaijani side,” said the diplomat, rather unexpectedly. Journalists were quick to correct the ambassador and requested he return to the matter of Armenia-Turkey relations.

Sukhorenko again said the issue has not yet been examined. “If such a thing happens [i.e. a suggestion to discuss the Armenian Genocide], we will discuss this issue,” said the ambassador.

Note that though Belarus has not recognized the Armenian Genocide, the country’s president, Alexander Lukashenko, has visited Tsitsernakaberd, the Genocide Memorial in Yerevan, on numerous occasions and even planted a tree in the memorial garden en route to the site.
