Armenian Foreign Minister Discusses Saribekyan’s Death with OSCE MG Co-Chairs

On Oct. 6, Armenian foreign minister Edward Nalbandian met with OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs Robert Bradtke (USA), Bernard Fassier (France) and Igor Popov (Russia), as well as Personal Representative of the OSCE Chair-in-Office, Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk, during their visit to Yerevan.

The Co-Chairs shared with Nalbandian the results of talks they had in Azerbaijan, as well as the details of their Field Assessment Mission in the territories around Nagorno-Karabakh.

Nalbandian expressed his indignation regarding the death of Manvel Saribekyan, who was taken captive by Azerbaijan and recently died while in their custody. The Armenian foreign minister particularly noted that for about 25 days, Red Cross representatives were not given the opportunity to meet with him.

He further noted that the action taken by Azerbaijani authorities, typical of terrorist groups, does not contribute to the negotiating process.

The parties discussed the next steps, continuing talks on the basis of the Madrid Principles.
