Formally the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Monitoring Committee co-rapporteurs are authorized to go to Armenia; however, no one wants to meet with us, said head of the Swedish delegation to PACE and one of the co-rapporteurs, Göran Lindblad, responding to a request for comments by Epress.am today.
He added that the other co-rapporteur, John Prescott, also isn’t willing to come to Armenia.
A “very strange situation” has developed, continued Lindblad. “The Armenian government only waits for my mandate to be over.”
“No there is no point going to the [Council of Europe] Forum [for the Future of Democracy]; had the mission taken place I would have. Now it would look like giving up if I came. I voted against holding a Democracy Forum in Yerevan until conditions are better,” he said.
