Russia, Turkey Won’t Allow a United Caucasus: Areshidze

Russia will not allow the idea of a united Caucasus to be carried out, said Georgian political analyst Mamuka Areshidze in an interview to Sana.ge, commenting on Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili statement at the UN General Assembly.

“Functions other than that of leader are unimaginable for Russia. The Americans took this path, when they realized that issues are not resolved this way. Only through equality is it possible to create a space where your interests will be observed, peace will be maintained and everyone will be happy. The Russians don’t understand this,” he said.

According to him, Russia has a number of advantages. These are energy and financial resources, the resources of the people, but, even to show the world, they can’t do it so that at least it appears to be an equal partnership.

“Either it has to sit on someone’s head or someone will sit on its head. What’s important for Russian policy is not diplomacy, but force. For that reason, Russia will do everything so that the idea [of a united Caucasus] is not implemented. Turkey also will do that, only it will display a more diplomatic and flexible approach,” concluded Areshidze.
