RA Prime Minister Ready to Consider International Practices in Preventing Torture

RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan today participated in an international workshop dedicated to creating an effective network of national mechanisms for preventing torture.

The prime minister noted that since 2006, Armenia has ratified the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. After the RA National Assembly ratified the convention, Armenia’s Ombudsman’s office recognized Armenia as an independent national mechanism for prevention, said Sargsyan.

Both at the international and national levels, we strive to take into account international best practices. From this perspective, today’s workshop will be very useful,” said the prime minister.
