Azerbaijani Footballers Received Unprecedented Bonuses for Winning Match

For their victory in the Euro 2012 qualifying match against Turkey, each player in Azerbaijani’s football team received 350,000 AZN (Azerbaijan New Manats, about $436,000 USD or 310,000 EUR), report various Turkish media. Note that Azerbaijan beat Turkey (1-0) in the Oct. 12 match in Baku.

Head of the press department at the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan Mikhail Narimanoglu, in an interview with ANS TV, confirmed that bonuses were handed out to athletes, without specifying the specific amount. He said that players on Azerbaijan’s football team are rewarded for winning in both official and friendly matches. 

According to the Turkish press, if they won the match against Germany, the Azerbaijani players would receive $625,000 USD each.

Note that for the title of World Champion, each player on Spain’s team had been promised a bonus of 600,000 EUR; England, 475,000 EUR; France, 390,000 EUR; Italy, 240,000 EUR; and Brazil, 180,000 EUR.
