Manukyan Would Like Armenia’s Issue to be Education, Not Political Prisoners

The Pan-Armenian National Movement political party and the Armenian National Congress have serious domestic political and international leverage in resolving the issue of political prisoners in Armenia, said leader of the Pan-Armenian National Movement Aram Manukyan, while speaking to journalists today and calling on the authorities to release all political prisoners.

“The whole world knows, the fact of political prisoners in Armenia has been recorded, the authorities must immediately release political prisoners. The problem of political prisoners is the problem of the day; god forbid, something happens to one of the guys: this is a matter of urgency,” he said.

He described how during his recent visits to Europe, he is “sort of at a loss” (or loses heart) when he sees, unlike in Armenia, the type of issues that are raised in Europe. As an example he noted the issues of raising salaries, digitizing TV, and “education throughout life.”

“The prime minister of Finland was speaking about the education system in their country; it raised my spirits,” he said.
