Armenia’s Ombudsman Asks Facebook to Shut Down its Page

On the basis of receiving numerous complaints, the office of the RA Human Rights Defender has appealed to Facebook’s admin in writing, requesting that the group page be shut down.

“Dear Facebook website administration, we inform you that the so-called group on your site called ‘Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia’ created by unknown individuals might mislead Facebook users and particularly our numerous applicants.

“In addition, we have reliable information that a certain number of the more than 700 members in the aforementioned group have joined falsely thinking this is the real [official] page of the RA Human Rights Defender’s staff.

“Moreover, our staff, out of interest, became members of this group, checking to see the nature of the announcements they’ll receive. It turns out that those mainly responsible for the page send ads to members encouraging the sale of different products.

“We express our concern and complaint in reference to the above and we ask you to officially close that page.”
