In Astrakhan, Armenia Decreased Karabakh’s Role: Former Foreign Affairs Ministry Spokesperson

The presidents of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan, with their meeting in Astrakhan, made another attempt to decrease Nagorno-Karabakh’s role in the conflict, said Armenian National Congress (HAK) foreign relations spokesperson and former spokesperson for the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Karapetyan in speaking with Epress.am, commenting specifically on the agreement to swap prisoners of war and return victims’ bodies.

“After the Chaylu diversion attack, for two months Azerbaijan was attempting to receive the corpse of the diversant, even… appealing to the Catholicos; however, Karabakh’s authorities had said that only they have the authority to resolve such issues. However, already Armenia is ready to assume the exchange,” said Karapetyan.

Furthermore, the HAK representative said, with this meeting, Azerbaijan reached all the aims put before it, it opened its leader’s monument in Astrakhan (referring to the Haydar Aliyev statue unveiled during the presidents’ visit), securing also the Russian president’s participation and Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s presence in Astrakhan in this event, as well as “securing the opportunity of receiving the corpse of the diversant who has become a hero for them,” he said, referring to the body of Mubariz Ibrahimov.
