Armenia’s National Security Service More Hospitable than its Foreign Ministry: Tuna Bekleviç

Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) was more hospitable and kind than Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs who “didn’t even bother to offer their neighbors a cup of coffee or tea.” This is how Powerful Turkey (Güçlü Türkiye Partisi, GTP) party leader Tuna Bekleviç described the last day of his visit to Armenia.

Bekleviç, however, said that they won’t back down on their decision and will succeed in getting the Armenia-Turkey border opened.

According to him, his party has been working on the issue of normalizing Armenia-Turkey relations for over a year and will reach its goal.

“Against all odds, we are going to open this border,” he said, according to Turkey’s ANKA news agency.

According to ANKA, the minority party leader criticized Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs since, according to him, “it is being controlled by a third country: Russia.”

Furthermore, he said that the opening of the Armenia-Turkey border will bring peace and prosperity to the region.

“Both the Turkish and Armenian people share the same idea, supporting the opening of the borders,” he said.

Recall that after giving a press conference today, Bekleviç and other GTP members were held by the NSS for questioning.

As told to Epress.am by NSS press spokesperson Ardzvi Bagramyan: “The Turkish politicians were invited to the NSS to provide explanations, since they had said they had crossed the state border.”

Furthermore, the NSS released an official statement earlier saying that both Bekleviç and party vice-chair Baybars Örsek were warned that “their behavior and irresponsible statements are unacceptable” and they were asked to leave Armenia.
