Turkish Party Leader in Yerevan to Accelerate Armenia-Turkey Border Opening

Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not invited the representatives of the political party Powerful Turkey for even a cup of coffee or tea to discuss the issue of opening of the Armenia-Turkey border but there’s still time till Saturday morning.

Powerful Turkey party leader Tuna Beklevic, at a press conference in Yerevan today, directed his appeal to Armenia’s foreign ministry via the Armenian press, so that the ministry does not refuse to meet with the politicians for a third time.

“Our initiative is a public effort, no Turkish authority [or government official] has sent us here, neither has the Armenian government invited [us]; more so, no international organization has directed us,” said Beklevic.

According to him, they have prepared a plan comprised of 31 articles related to opening the Armenia-Turkey border.

“We want to discuss this plan here, and all the suggestions and concerns that will be, we will take [and] present to the Turkish authorities,” said the Powerful Turkey party leader.

Asked by Epress.am whether they are dissatisfied by the negotiations process begun by the Football Diplomacy between Armenia and Turkey and they don’t expect the borders to open, Beklevic said it’s their dissatisfaction with the course of such negotiations that forced to them to take on a new initiative.

At the same time, the Powerful Turkey party leader said that he considered the Football Diplomacy to be positive.

“We’re not saying that the governments of the two countries aren’t doing anything, but we want to accelerate the process with our efforts,” he said.
