Nagorno-Karabakh’s autonomy can be recognized without Yerevan, which will simply be removed from the process, said vice-president of the Center for Modeling of Strategic Development, chief editor of Federal magazine Grigory Trofimchuk, commenting on the bill in Armenia’s parliament to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence, which has been postponed till early December, after the Dec. 1–2 OSCE summit in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The next meeting of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is expected to take place at that time.
“In this case, the situation is very sensitive and disturbing. Everything is being done now as if by Armenia’s hand, but in the future, they’ll simply say thanks to Yerevan, and this issue will be dealt by a country that generally has no connection with the region,” he said.
