Two of the twenty alleged “spies” arrested by the Georgian authorities last week have today been named as Armen Gevorkyan and Ruben Shikoyan by their lawyer, reports the Georgian International Media Centre.
As is immediately suggested by their names, both men are ethnic Armenians and the arrests may add to the growing uneasiness between Armenia and Georgia: especially if a significant proportion of others arrested — the government has refused to release any names — are also Armenian.
According to lawyer Nana Tsuladze, Gevorkyan and Shikoyan were arrested in Batumi and have been sentenced to two months in prison, reports InterpressNews.
