Armenia’s Opposition Needs a New Approach: Sahakyan

The ruling government doesn’t have a problem in “singing,” we’ve already sung our song, we (just) have to work, said Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) parliamentary faction leader Galust Sahakyan, speaking on preparations for Armenia’s next parliamentary elections at a press conference today.

“The opposition has to sing [and] needs a storyteller,” he said. When a journalist noted that basically HHK was also at one time a storyteller, the parliamentarian answered in the affirmative.

“The opposition doesn’t work, it doesn’t govern the state, that’s why they have to try to win the people’s attention,” he said.

In his opinion, the opposition, in the face of the Armenian National Congress (HAK), has to begin elections campaigning earlier than the ruling government.

“”HAK is the opposition, but against who? what is it opposing? what has it done for the people? Their preaching is restricted only to Yerevan,” said the National Assembly deputy.

Sahakyan also spoke on HAK rallies, calling them predictable. According to him, journalists can even take a guess at what HAK leader Levon Ter-Petrossian will say in his speeches.

According to Sahakyan, the opposition needs a new approach.
