From Jan.–Oct. this year, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) exported 278.46 million cubic meters of natural gas to Georgia, reports Business Georgia.
In Oct. alone, 31.12 million cubic meters of natural gas was exported to Georgia — more than twice as much as September (14.3 million cubic meters).
SOCAR’s own natural gas supply was exported through the pipeline in Azerbaijan’s Gazakh region connecting the two countries.
In Nov. 2008, an agreement was signed between Georgia and Azerbaijan which gave SOCAR the possibility of revitalizing its activities in the Georgian market in the coming 5 years. According to the agreement, in order to carry out its activities in Georgia, the Azerbaijani company created a subsidiary company called SOCAR Georgia Gas.
