Azerbaijani Film Festival in Yerevan: Counter Event Planned Today

An event advertised on Facebook as “Anti-Festival: Hatred in Turkish and Azerbaijani Cinema” will be taking place at the Tekeyan Center today. The creators of the Facebook event page are Facebook users by the name of Hrachya Barkhudaryan and Gevorg Hetanos (“pagan”) Ghazaryan.

“In response to Georgy Vanyan’s Azerbaijani Film Festival, we are organized a film screening. The aim of the screenings is to show Armenian audiences the exploitation of the theme of hatred in Azerbaijani and Turkish cinema and the examples of using cinema in those countries as a tool of anti-Armenian propaganda. This will prove to Azerbaijani film festival organizers and all supporters how wrong of a time was selected to hold the festival, which apart from everything is one-sided. These films per se justify all those counter statements which found their place these past few weeks,” reads the information provided on the event’s Facebook page.

Note that comments left on the page by a user known as Van Sedrakyan state that a protest against the Azerbaijani film festival will be organized today and that protestors will attempt to disrupt the festival in every way possible.

Epress.am attempted to clarify from Tekeyan Center whether such a “counter event” was set to take place today. Tekeyan Center informed Epress.am that they’re not aware of this and advised to call after 2 pm and speak to the press spokesperson.
