According to statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO), the leading cause of cancer deaths among women is breast cancer (17.2% of the total number of cancer deaths); among men, it’s lunch cancer (26.9%).
The highest mortality rate from cervical cancer (21 per 100,000) were registered in Romania, while the highest mortality rate from breast cancer in Belgium and Armenia (37 per 100,000).
The reason for the figures in Armenia and Belgium the WHO associates with genetics, while in the case of Romania, the organization names the reason as the lack of hygiene in the local population.
The highest over cancer mortality rate was registered in Hungary, where the WHO has noted 458 death cases per 100,000 population. Following Hungary are Russia and Ukraine (at 347 per 100,000). WHO experts believe that this is due to the significant number of smokers in those countries.
The highest rate of deaths from lung cancer are in Hungary (135 per 100,000) followed by Poland (93 per 100,000) and Croatia (86 per 100,000).
