Two Months Later, Armenian Journalist to Receive Russian Prize

Manana Aslamazyan is to receive the Tefi (“taffy”) Prize today for her contribution to the development of Russian television.

President of the Academy of Russian Television Mikhail Shvydkoy will personally hand the prize over to the Armenian journalist. Note that the prize will be awarded two months after the award ceremony took place.

During the official ceremony, Aslamazyan did not receive the prize as she wasn’t in the room at the time. However, her name wasn’t even called, despite being nominated for one of the most prestigious awards.

The Russian TV Academy later called the omission a mistake and promised to give Aslamazyan the prize the next time she goes to Russia. However, not everyone believed that this would happen. Note that three years ago, the journalist was accused of smuggling currency in excess of what was permitted, and the offices of Internews Europe, where she was the Executive Director, were searched. Many believed then that Aslamazyan’s work was political in nature.

Manana Aslamazyan currently lives in Armenia.
