After the government session today, RA Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan approached the relatives of the young men who died under suspicious circumstances while serving in Armenia’s armed forces, who were protesting in front of the government building today.
Note that Ohanyan’s bodyguards not only did not t allow the Epress.am correspondent to record the conversation between Ohanyan and the parents, but also pushed our correspondent and blocked the lens of our video camera with their hands.
After the defense minister left, the aunt of Narek Galstyan, who died on May 9, 2008, at Meghri Agarak military unit, told Epress.am that the minister took her phone number and promised to follow up on the case.
“Seyran Ohanyan told me he will inform the deputy minister of the already-closed case, so that the latter will review it. But when the case was closed, when the last trial was, I don’t know. I am the legal successor [to Narek Galstyan], but I’m just finding out about the case being closed,” she said.
Galstyan’s aunt said that the autopsy revealed that Narek Galstyan’s cause of death was gasoline.
“They say that he went to steal gasoline, had entered the container [in which petrol is kept] and was unable to come out. Our child was a driver for two years, how come he didn’t understand that if he goes in, he can’t come out. They just don’t want to tell the truth. But the truth is that on May 9, Victory Day, all the superiors, [full from eating, drinking], drunk entered the unit, hit our child so hard that he died,” she said, adding that she doesn’t believe that Seyran Ohanyan will do anything, since it’s already been 3 years that she’s been asking for the names of those responsible to no avail.
