‘These Hyenas are Devouring my Child’s Blood’: Armenian Mothers of Dead Soldiers Protest

As is the case just about every Thursday, a demonstration took place in front of the RA Government building in central Yerevan today. Today too, as with every time Armenia’s government convenes for a session, the parents of sons killed under unknown circumstances while serving in the Armenian army raised their voices of protest.

“They are devouring our children’s blood… how many soldiers died over the last few months,” the mother of Arayik Avtisyan, who died in 2001 at Vayk military unit, told Epress.am.

Parents and relatives are demanding a fair and just sentence from the authorities: they also would like to know the names of those responsible for their sons’ deaths.

Crying, Gohar Sargsyan, the mother of Tigran Ohanjanyan, who died on Aug. 30, 2007, in Karchaghbyur’s 28/418 military unit, was yelling, “Who killed my child? They kill a soldier, then let the commanders and generals kill themselves. The General Prosecutor and Republic’s president bears the burden of the guilt of all soldiers’ murders. Zahrmar, our efficient army… I brought my child from Russia, enlisted him in the army, so these hyenas could devour my child’s blood.”
