Defense Ministry Introduces New Procedure for Conscripts Making Calls to Loved Ones

With the aim of keeping conscripts serving in Armenia’s armed forces and their families in touch, RA Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan has signed a decree which outlines the procedure related to the use of cell phones by soldiers, according to the RA Ministry of Defense information and public relations department. 

According to the new procedure, conscripts will be able to use the cell phone in their platoon leaders’ possession to call family members during set times.

In an agreement signed between the RA Ministry of Defense and mobile communications provider VivaCell MTS, a special tariffs plan will be available for conscripts which will be free of charge to the conscript making the call.

Another decree signed by the defense minister outlines the routes and schedule of family members visiting conscripts serving in remote and border areas. According to the decree,the list of visiting relatives are compiled by the regional military commissariats, and departures are planned from a central gathering place. Note, these organized visits allow relatives to visit conscripts without paying for transportation.
