International Liberal Youth Ask Armenian Government to ‘Resolve 12 Political Prisoners Issue’

As a result of continued persecution of Pan-Armenian National Movement Youth Union activists in Armenia, a resolution was put forth during the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY) annual General Assembly, which took place in Beirut, Lebanon, from Nov.19–21, which was approved by delegations from 105 countries, according to the youth group in Armenia.

The resolution reads, in part:

“Considering the physical violence carried out against leader of youth and political prisoner since 2009 Nikol Pashinyan, as well as the unlawful activities against youth civil activists by Armenia’s police during a peaceful demonstration on Nov. 9 this year; emphasizing the fact that in a country which strives for democratic values and to integrate more with European organizations, the existence of political prisoners and political persecution is unacceptable;

“The International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY) condemns the political persecution against youth activists, as well as the incidents of violence in prison against Nikol Pashinyan.

“The IFLRY calls on the Armenian government to conduct an impartial and comprehensive investigation into the incidents listed above and to punish the guilty with the full strictness of the law.

“The IFLRY also calls on the Armenian government to immediately resolve the issue of 12 political prisoners, which will signal Armenia’s readiness to join the European family.

“The IFLRY calls on the Federation’s bureau and member organizations to follow the process of these demands being carried out and maintain active involvement in the issues related to political persecutions in Armenia.”

Note that the youth wing of the Pan-Armenian National Movement was made a full member of IFLRY at the Beirut meeting. The Pan-Armenian National Movement youth wing has been working with IFLRY for 7 years already.
