The upcoming OSCE summit in Astana (Kazakhstan) could give impetus to resolving the Karabakh conflict, said OSCE Conflict Prevention Centre Director Herbert Salber.
“I am expecting new momentum at the summit aimed at the display of political will toward solving the conflict,” he said.
According to him, however, one has to be realistic: “This conflict is quite deep, it has a long history, and perhaps it would be unrealistic to expect the issue will be resolved here [at the summit].”
At the same time, Salber said, as a result of discussions during the summit, “we can expect improvement in the atmosphere and progress connected with the proposed conditions for resolving the conflict.”
“In the end, the conflicting parties should resolve the issue themselves. The OSCE or Minsk Group, presidents or foreign ministers of other countries can only assist and support the negotiations process,” he said, reports RIA Novosti.
