At a press conference in Yerevan today, asked whether the city water pipes will be changed, Yerevan Djur (“Water”) CJSC Commercial Director Gagik Margaryan said, “We have changed 17 kilometers [of piping] over these past 4 years,” adding that the network of pipes is 2,120 kilometers long.
The contract under which the company operates doesn’t expect an expansion and capital renovation of the network in the near future.
“We are using that which we don’t have,” he said.
“Expansion and global renovation of the network is not included in our tariffs. We only add continuity to eliminate some accidents,” said Margaryan.
The company, according to its commercial director, cannot change the entire network.
“The network is a 70-year-old network, it has to gradually change, change, and change, so that twenty, fifty years later we will have a changed [i.e. new] network.”
