Since Sunday, the price of petrol in Armenia has gone up. The price of the most consumed type of gasoline (“regular”) has gone up by 10 drams per liter, becoming 380 Armenian drams (about $1.05 US), reports local daily paper Aravot (“Morning”).
According to fuel importer Flash LLC Director Mushegh Elchyan, the reasons for the increase in gasoline prices are manifold: “Generally, the price of oil products increases during the winter months, due to seasonal conditions. This year all seasonal forecasts predict that winter in the Europe area will be cold and there will be large amounts of precipitation, that’s why the price of gasoline will gradually increase. Besides, economic growth has been noted in the US, which also contributes to the increase in prices.”
Asked by Aravot could the reason also be that global oil reserves are being depleted, Elchyan said: “No, they’re not emptying, but over the past two years, the cost of gasoline has been unprecedentedly high. There’s never been such a thing. If you recall, the price of regular [gasoline] in our country had reached 390 drams per liter, then again it decreased.” The Flash LLC director predicts that if things keep going as they are, the price of gasoline will increase further, but as for how much, he could not say at this time.
