Yesterday’s resignation of Yerevan mayor Gagik Beglaryan might not be the only one at this time. According to local daily paper Aravot (“Morning”), RA Minister of Justice Gevorg Danielyan’s resignation is also imminent. The reasons for his resignation, however, the paper says, can only be assumed.
Another local daily Jamanak (“Times”), citing its own government sources, reports that by an order by RA President Serzh Sargsyan yesterday, Danielyan has already left his post.
It is the Armenian president who has the authority to appoint someone in this position, while Yerevan’s city council has the responsibility of electing a new mayor. According to the law, a new mayor must be elected within one month.
