Newly elected Yerevan mayor Karen Karapetyan is not preparing to “commit genocide against personnel” in his new position. Karapetyan said this himself at the end of today’s Yerevan Council of Aldermen meeting, when the results of the voting were announced: Karapetyan was declared mayor of Yerevan with 50 votes in favor and 1 vote against.
During his speech, Karapetyan noted that former Yerevan mayor Gagik Beglaryan had made many successful strides during his term.
According to Karapetyan, he wasn’t expecting to be nominated for the position. He is an independent (not belonging to any political party) but was proposed as a candidate by the ruling Republican Party of Armenia and agrees with the party’s ideology.
“There’s no desire for a massacre, a genocide of personnel, but there are going to be rules of the game and there are going to be demands with regard to managers. Those who meet the demands will stay; those who don’t, will go,” said Karapetyan.
