US Administration Opposes Potential House Resolution on Armenian Genocide

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu phoned US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday and requested the US administration to become part to defeat an Armenian genocide resolution that may be brought to the agenda of the US House of Representatives.

According to Turkish Anadolu news agency, Clinton, in return, told Davutoglu that the US administration gave importance to US-Turkey relations and that they would make every effort so that an Armenian resolution should not be placed on the agenda of the US House of Representatives.

On December 17, US Assistant Secretary Philip J. Crowley told during the daily press briefing in Washington that US administration is aware of a potential House Resolution 252 and strongly opposes that resolution.

“We continue to believe that the best way for Turkey and Armenia to address their shared past is through their efforts to normalize relations” Crowley said.
