Serzh Sargsyan has begun a process which we have been awaiting much earlier, said National Assembly Deputy Chairman, member of Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) Samvel Nikoyan recurring to the recent internal political developments, in particular the dismissals of Yerevan Mayor Gagik Beglaryan and several ministers in December without specifying whom he meant by saying “we”.
“The tense internal political situation in Armenia in 2008-2009 didn’t make it possible for Serzh Sargsyan to undertake the steps he is making now,” said Nikoyan adding that the implementation of those measures was impeded by the super tense situation in the country’s foreign policy.
Replying to journalist’s remark about the opposition’s opinion that “such changes bring about a break up in the authority pyramid,” Nikoyan said: “This changes will make the authority pyramid even stronger and not break it up”.
NA Vice Chairman didn’t exclude further dismissals, but mentioned that no revolutionary approach would be demonstrated.
“If someone doesn’t act within rules, he must be dismissed,” Nikoyan said.
