Yerevan City Hall Employee Caught in the Act of Accepting Bribes

Due to measures undertaken by the organized crime department of the RA Police, on Jan. 24, Yerevan City Hall First Class Specialist Rustam Matevosyan was caught in his office in the act of receiving a bribe of $10,300 US, reads a RA Police report.

It turns out that in 2010, Matevosyan demanded and received $6,000 US for measuring a plot of land, preparing the necessary documents and offering to act as mediator between the citizen authorized by the land’s true owner and Yerevan city administration with the aim of securing a decision on a plot of illegally occupied land in the Yerevan district of Kanaker-Zeitoun.

On Jan. 24, for handing over the prepared documents and for receiving a final decision on land ownership, Matevosyan demanded an additional $9,500 US.

Furthermore, for likewise measuring and preparing documents on the basis of which Yerevan City Hall would make a decision for occupied land on Yerevan’s Manukyan street, Matevosyan demanded and received from the same individual a bribe of $800 US.

The $10,300 US has been seized. An investigation is underway.
