Heritage Party MP Armen Martirosyan sent a letter to RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan on the matter of APPA (the mandatory vehicle insurance plan implemented at the start of this year); however, Sargsyan has yet to respond, said Martirosyan, speaking to journalists in Yerevan today.
According to National Assembly rules of procedure, said Martirosyan, letters by members of parliament to the government expect to be answered within 10 days.
“I’m going to suggest, if they don’t respond to letters, government staff be fined about 50,000 drams [about $140 US]. That will be a real indicator of APPA,” he said.
According to the MP, a process of impoverishment is going on in Armenia today and with the introduction of APPA, if Armenia has reached European standards, then the country must go on to European standards of poverty.
As for the recent protests by Yerevan vendors, Martirosyan deemed the situation an economic policy carried out against citizens. In this sense, he considered former Armenian prime minister Hrant Bagratyan’s statement spot on: “If they didn’t do anything, then that would be the best [form of] assistance for citizens.”
