Young Turkish and Armenian musicians gave a friendship concert in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, reports News.az, citing TurkishNY.
Turkish and Armenian musicians performed works of Ahmet Adnan Saygun, Edgar Manas, Dikran Cuhaciyan and dedicated the song “Sari Gelin” to slain Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink.
Ayse Taspinar played the piano, Petros Boyajyan played the violin and Garineh Avakian was the soprano performer in the concert.
“Sharing cultural heritage is the best way to understand each other, learn from each other, and to get closer to our friends,” Turkey’s Ambassador to the United States Namik Tan said during the concert at his residence.
Tan said he had invited the Armenian ambassador to the concert; however, the envoy did not attend the concert
“We lived side-by-side with these people for a few thousand years. Our aim is to create a common future,” Tan said.
Tan also said Turkish people were aware that one of the factors that contributed to Turkish music, language and culture was the Armenians.
Also speaking to reporters after the concert, Aysegul Taspinar said she had given a mini-concert at an Armenian school, and she invited Armenian musicians to take the stage in Turkey.
